Imagine, for a second, the uproar if a mayor from a major American city had called for 10,000 white men to patrol the streets. Or 5,280 Jewish men. Or 314159 Asian girls. Or 2718 Hispanic boys. (I'd throw American Indians into the mix, but can't think of a good mathematical constant, right now.)
As for the efficacy, well, I've certainly got no problem with citizens walking their own streets and reporting any problems that they see. I do wonder how many are going to mistake this as an empowerment to overstep their "authority."

Fascinating in a horrible sort of way.
I live on the outskirts of Philly. There are areas you really can't/shouldn't travel unless you have a BAR and a Bradley tank.
Places where the police have just flat-out pulled out and left to their own devices.
IMHO, Sylvester Johnson and John Street are 100% responsible for the disaster this city has become.
This will be an excuse for the denizens of the badlands to settle their beefs on the street, under the auspices of "citizen control."
I heard about that deal on Natl Pubic radiddo wile working TH nite--FR morn. There were quotes by come community "leaders" who were sure Hizonner couldn't possibly get a thousand, far less 10K volunteers.
Commentator stated that the Guardian Angels had given up on being a presence in Philly, and maintained only a token detail in a single neighborhood -- far from the worst one.

This promises to be the source of more jokes than "The Million Man March."
I don't know about you guys but when I think about crime prevention and community problem solving asking 10,000 civilian, inner city, ghetto dwelling males to take to the street doesn't pop up up on my list of smart stuff to do. But hey, what do I know?
How come Asians get Pi? Shouldn't Arabs get Pi?
Because that's the way it came out, that's why! I mean, what sense does it make that the Hispanic boys get e, or that the Jews get the number of feet in a mile?
