Calling him out.
Who here wants to read the writings of a 40 year veteran Texas lawman, degreed history major, gun aficionado/collector/shotist, formerly ranked IPSC competitor, reloader, hunter, handloader, firearms instructor (police and CCW), discussion board moderator, and dog wrangler, who by-the-way happens to be my Dad?
Show of hands?

Read his commentary?
Hells, yeah!
Hand!
both hands way up.
Yeah, I'd read his tall tales. I'm sure they'd do well in a dead tree version as well.
Hey, if Glenn Elliott can write two books I'm sure JPG can fill at least that many, and I haven't heard your dad's stories before.
Regards,
Rabbit.
I've been doin' my part, i.e. , gently encouragin', suggestin', hintin', now, I'm to the naggin' stage. Give a Sistah some help here folks. I only see four hands raised.
Hands up here.
Count both of my hands in.
Actually, I have been wondering why he doesn't do this.
Add two of my hands to the rest!
Hand here...
Hey, wow!
I am really humbled. And very gratified that some of the very writers I read every day have raised a hand or two.
The idea of doing a blog HAS crossed my mind from time to time, but, really, I've been a little intimidated at the prospect.
First, I have computer expertise just about sufficient to turn on the power switch and - - and, uh . . . Well, that's about the extent of my cybergeekitude.
Second, there's an equipment shortage in this household. Beloved Spouse -- Hummm, I can see I'd need to find a new nickname for her, or at least remember to NEVER use those initials -- is quite already quite active in bloggery. We only barely manage to share the computer as it is. I'd need to get another, or at least, to resurrect an old computer to use as a word processer only, and send everything from this one. And then, I'd need to locate and acquire a round tuit.
Third - - I am much afeared that I'll sit down at the keyboard and find I have nothing to say, five days (nights) out of six. Oh, I've been there and done that a few trimes. More often, been NEARBY and heard the stories firsthand. But, hell, I've forgotten most of 'em.
I wonder if this might not be early-onset symptoms of Auldtimerz Disease.
The ideal of starting my own blog has appeal, though. This past weekend, after much penny pinching and hand wringing, I finally purchased a particular pistol I've wanted for some time. The unsuspecting LawDog was passing through, and I dragged him along to a Fort Worth Gun Show. With him cheering me onward, I spent a pretty fair chunk o'change on a brand new, old model Colt. I've been thinking about documenting a range session with some decent photos and writing it up. My own blog WOULD be a pretty neat place to put it, huh?
This project is something into which it bears looking . . . ;-)
Thank you all for the encouragement.
JPG
Yeah, go for it!
"I've been thinking about documenting a range session with some decent photos and writing it up. My own blog WOULD be a pretty neat place to put it, huh?"
That's the only reason that I haven't written it up. That, and it needs pictures. Get your spouse to use that fancy-Dan camera of hers...
Just, when you create your blog, don't limit by using the word "guns," or "Old Fart," or the like. You're more global than that.
Raisin' my hand here, boss. If Papa G's anything like his progeny, it'd be a most interesting read indeed...
I've often wondered why he hasn't already.
But then I believe I've already told you that. :)
Johnny, if you don't have anything to write that evening -- don't write.
You should have a blog. Just ... don't limit yourself in your subjects. Write about what is important to you -- that's what I have done, and it seems to work.
Yes, jpg - do as lawdog suggested?
The wealth of information you sent me about the ca. 1913 1911 I posted on my blog was a fascinating read, full of invaluable information, and I suspect was entirely from the top of your head. You write in such a beautiful and engaging fashion that I know like myself, many others would settle for the occasional post.
I still regard your guest post at Holly's blog on San Jacinto day as among my favorite, most educational and interesting posts I've read.
Yup - perhaps it IS time for a second machine at your house?
Read it? Hell, I'd memorize it!
Hand. We even have a round tuit hanging out in our junk drawer; frankly, having the thing just embarrasses us, it's so dusty.
I'm fascinated with Marko's NEO word processor keyboard. Hundreds of hours of use on 4 AA batteries. Might be the way to go...
But seriously, y'all could get a laptop like mine, and you'd be set. I haven't run a desktop at home in 5 months, now.
Well, for better or worse, I guess - -
I was talking about being "Called Out," and My Beloved sorta taunted me into letting her walk me through the setup.
So - -

There's a fairly boring lttle story to go with the blog title, "Expert Witness." I'll tell it there a little later.
Again, thanks for all the encouragement. Hope I won't disappoint any or you.
Bookmarked! In my fascination with my own life I failed to take proper note of this post, or I would have been raising my own hand as well.
Yay!
We did it.
Go to Expert Witness to see Dad's sprang new blog!
Both hands scratchin' on the ceiling!!!

woohoo!
We went out last night to collect photos for dad's first content-heavy entry.
I am many years late to the party apparently.
Question in my mind is, what curious higher thinking mind would not want to read the written expression of a thoughtful, educated 40 plus year veteran musings of a Texas lawman?
