As the saying goes, "The universe is not only stranger than we imagine; it's stranger than we can imagine."
What started the whole discussion? Has someone been reading new fiction? Randy Wayne White's latest Doc Ford novel, Dark Shadows, has a large monitor lizard living in the scrub of Florida. He uses just this topic, asexual reproduction, as a narrative tool.

It makes me think of how the komodo dragon-like "Grendels" in Legacy Of Heorot may not have been so very far of a stretch. If anything, they're probably too terestrial.
I haven't read Randy Wayne White, it was inspired by a comment by a friend with a similar background/interests on an earlier post about fetal development and sex determination.
I promise the post that one was meant to be a placeholder for is coming, it's just a bunch of stuff has been going on that makes concentrating tough this last week.
